What the Hixson award means to me

There are many things that come to my mind when I think of the Hixson award. First of all is the reason I received it. Another is how it is assisting me. And finally is what is expected of me. I believe that all of us who received this award has most of these in common because if not.
For those of us who received this scholarship, we were chosen for a reason. We fit the description of being from Iowa, attending Iowa State University, have financial need, and we must all have the potential to succeed. Although these are probably not the only reasons for being chosen, they are the guidelines for being  an option. It makes me proud that I was one of few that were chosen.
The Hixson award also makes me think about how it is assisting me. I can say that if not for this scholarship, I would not be attending Iowa State. I would be at a community college taking engineering courses. This award is saving me money while giving me a quality education. This scholarship also assists me by giving me tutoring sessions. I also learn some soft skills and things that are not taught in other classes offered at ISU.
When I think of the Hixson award, and being a recipient, I think of what is expected of me. First of all, I'm expected to have at least a 2.0 GPA. This is not hard to obtain, especially if we were chosen because of our academics in the first place. Another thing is being a good representative of the Hixson scholars. We are supposed to be leaders or role models for future students.
